EXCAVATORS
PROBLEM:
The welded joint on the bucket between the side plate and the plate assembly may crack. The crack may extend from the weld into the plate assembly. During the manufacturing process, an excessive gap between the plates decreased the structural integrity of the welded joint.
SOLUTION:
If the welded joint for the side plate and the 100-4143 Plate Assembly in the 189-9002 Bucket Assembly crack, repair weld the bucket assembly. The location of the cracked welds on the bucket is shown in Illustration 1 and Illustration 2.
The following corrective actions have been implemented at the bucket manufacturing facility. The improvements are effective with bucket serial number BUT04B1190.
The dimensions for the side plate and the plate assembly are strictly controlled.
The weld tack station will reject any material that does not dimensionally conform to specifications.
Personnel that are welding the buckets will receive education in order to improve the quality of the welded joint.
