Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove drain plug (1) in order to drain the final drive. Drain the oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Install plug (1).

Install Tooling (A) to cover (2). Install a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Remove cover (2). The weight of cover (2) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb).

Install Tooling (B) to axle shaft (3). Partially remove axle shaft (3). Remove Tooling (B).

Install a suitable lifting device to axle shaft (3). Remove axle shaft (3). The weight of the right axle shaft is approximately 35 kg (77 lb). The weight of the left axle shaft is approximately 55 kg (120 lb). Installation Procedure

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Install a suitable lifting device to axle shaft (3). Install axle shaft (3). The weight of the right axle shaft is approximately 35 kg (77 lb). The weight of the left axle shaft is approximately 55 kg (120 lb).

Install Tooling (A) to cover (2). Install a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Install the cover. The weight of the cover is approximately 25 kg (55 lb).
Refill the final drive. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for information regarding the correct refill capacity.
