The Cat ID provides the capability to allow or prevent engine starting, or shut the engine down by entering a four character password into the display when the engine is at idle.In the power-up sequence, the display will indicate if the Theft Deterrent System is enabled, auto-enable, or disabled. With the system enabled or auto-enabled, the engine will not start until the four character customer password is successfully entered into the display. If the system is disabled, the engine will start without the password. To enable the system, the customer password must be successfully entered. Entered passwords will not be accepted if the engine is not at idle condition or an incorrect password is entered. To auto-enable the system, the truck needs to be shut off in a normal manner. The Theft Deterrent parameter needs to be programmed to be in the Auto-Enable mode.Accessing Theft Deterrent
ECM Customer Programmable parameters determine the access to this function of the dash display. If the ECM is not programmed to allow access to this screen, the entire Customer Parameter column of the screen map will not be shown. Therefore, pressing the Right arrow key from the DIAGNOSTIC DATA (if Theft Deterrent is not programmed) title screen will skip over the CUSTOMER PARAMETER title screen.After programming the parameters in the ECM, power to the display must be turned OFF and then back ON for the display to recognize the change.
If a password is forgotten, an electronic service tool must be used to read the programmed password.
