Pump Drive Gearbox
Check the Oil Level
1. Open the access door on the right side of the machine. 2. Remove plug (1). The oil level should be to the bottom of the plug opening. If the oil level is low, remove breather (2) and add oil until it reaches the bottom of the plug opening.3. Clean and install the plug.4. Install the breather.5. Check the Oil Level
1. Remove the rear access covers. Check the oil level of both conveyor gearboxes. 2. Remove the fill plug. The oil level should be to the bottom of the plug opening. Add oil if necessary.3. Clean and install the plug.4. Install and secure the access covers.Track Gearboxes
Check the Oil Level
The track gearboxes are located at the rear of each track assembly. Check the oil level of both track gearboxes. The track gearboxes have two plugs. Position the gearboxes so one plug (1) is at the bottom when checking the oil level of each. The other plug (2) becomes the level check/fill plug.Remove the level check/fill plug. The oil level should be to the bottom of the plug opening. Add oil if necessary. Clean and install the plug.Tracks
Check the Pads
Visually check each track pad. Replace any pads that are damaged. When installing a new pad, liberally grease the nuts and bolts. Tighten to a torque of 150 20 N m (110 15 lb ft).Check the Tension
The tracks are automatically adjusted by a hydraulic system in the machine. Tension will be relieved when the engine is stopped. The engine must be running to perform the following visual check.Check that the tracks are not obviously loose or tight. If a track is found to be too loose or too tight, See the Service Manual or contact your Caterpillar dealer for procedures to adjust the tension.
