PROBLEM:
When buckets are used for tamping or compaction, the packing of clay into the bottom of the tip ears may force the 220-9090 Retainers upward and out of engagement.
SOLUTION:
Spot Weld on Bottom of Retainer Retainer in the Tip Ear
In order to keep the retainers in place during a compaction or tamping application, apply a small spot weld to the bottom (long end) of the retainer.
Note: Do not overheat the retainer. Overheating can cause damage to the rubber material of the retainer.
After applying a spot weld to the bottom (long end) of the retainer, the retainer can only be installed from the bottom side of the tip. To remove the retainer, drive downward from the top side of the tip.
Note: If an application should result in a load developing against the top side of the retainer causing the retainer to move out of position, a small spot weld can be applied to the upper (short) end of the retainer.
In this case, the retainer can now only be installed from the top side of the tip and removed by driving the retainer out from the bottom side.
Note: Do not apply spot welds to both ends of a retainer. If spot welds are applied to both ends of the retainer, the retainer cannot be installed onto the tip.
