SHAFT A. 1D3489 - Caterpillar

1. Turn the final drive until drain plug (2) is on the bottom as shown. Remove drain plug (2) and drain the oil from the final drive.2. Remove three bolts (1) and the washers, and remove cover (3) from the final drive. Remove the O-ring seal from the cover. 3. Remove retainer (4) from sun gear (5). 4. Install tool (A) and remove the outer axle. The following steps are for the installation of the axles.5. Install tool (A) on the outer axle, and install the outer axle into the final drive. Make sure the thrust button that goes between the inner and outer axles is installed into the end of the outer axle.6. Install retainer (4) in sun gear (5).7. Install the O-ring seal on cover (3). Put the cover in position on the final drive, and install three bolts (1) and the washers.8. After installation of the axle, fill the final drive with clean oil to the correct level. See the Operation And Maintenance Manual for the correct oil and capacity.
