Service Brake Holding Ability Test
Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing. If the machine begins to move during test, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the parking brake.
Note: Steering must be enabled in order to shift the transmission out of NEUTRAL.Reference: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Operator Controls" “Steering” section for more information.
Start the engine. Raise the implement slightly. Apply the service brake. Release the parking brake.
Let machine warm up until transmission oil is > 30C.
Ensure that the Service Brake Check mode is enabled. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Monitoring System - Service Brake Mode" description for additional details.Note: Any attempt by the operator to check the holding capability of the brakes while the service brake check mode is disabled will not properly indicate the holding ability of the braking system.
Put the transmission control in FORWARD while the service brakes are applied.
Engine idle will automatically be set to 1375 rpm when Service Brake Check Mode is active Gradually depress the right pedal to the maximum in order to increase transmission torque. Hold for 5 seconds. The machine should not move.
Reduce the engine speed to low idle. Move the transmission direction control to the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake. Lower the implement to the ground
Disable the "Service Brake Mode". "Service mode de-activated" will display on the monitor.
Stop the engine. If the display indicates "Service mode aborted", then follow these guidelines: The test mode defaults to 5 minutes. Test mode will abort if the test runs longer than 5 minutes. Do the test again and perform all steps within the 5 minute time limit. If the machine moved during the test, perform the test again. Ensure that the left pedal is fully depressed when performing the test. If the machine moved during the second test, inspect the brakes. Make any necessary repairs before the machine is returned to operation.
