The Generator Set Start Module provides redundant starting capability for the Caterpillar generator set. This option increases the generator's starting reliability. The Generator Set Start Module must be used with a separate, dedicated starter. For highest reliability, the Generator Set Start Module should be used as a redundant starting option to batteries.Note: The Generator Set Start Module can also be used with the Generator Set Parallel Module.The Generator Set Start Module provides auxiliary starting power (up to 1000 amperes at 24 VDC) to a redundant engine starter. This engine starter is not powered by the starting batteries. The auxiliary starting power comes from the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) flywheel system.When starting power is provided directly from the UPS flywheel, the standby generator is ensured a constant voltage source that has the following characteristics:
no battery replacement is required
temperature tolerant
incorporated into the monitoring program and the maintenance program of the UPS systemThe Generator Set Start Module can be mounted on the floor or on a wall. When the specified cable and the provided connector are used, the start module can be located up to 500 feet from the UPS. The start module can be located up to 25 feet from the engine starter.
