Before assembly of components, make sure bearing cups and cones are seated in the housing by using 0.038 mm (.0015 inch) shim stock or a standard feeler gauge.1. Assemble gears (2) and (6), bearing cages (4) and (8) and the bearings. Position the housing in a horizontal position.2. Install two cage bolts evenly spaced in each cage (4) and (8). Torque to 2.25 N m (20 lb inch). Rotate gears (2) and (6) three revolutions. Retorque the cage bolts to 4.5 N m (40 lb inch).3. Measure gaps (3) and (7) between the housing and the bearing cages.4. Average the two readings in Step 3 and add 0.18 mm (.007 inch). This is the thickness of shims (17) or (18) required.5. Remove the cages and install the required shims.6. Install the cages and tighten the bolts to the correct torque.7. Check the end play of the shafts. The end play must be 0.05 mm to 0.11 mm (.002 to .004 inch).8. If the end play is less than 0.05 mm (.002 inch), add shims. If the end play is greater than 0.11 mm (.004 inch), remove shims.9. Put 7M-7260 Liquid Gasket on the seal bore surface in cage (13) and (16). Let dry before installing the seal.
