Attach a suitable lifting sling and a hoist around control rod (2).
Remove bolt (8), full nut (7), and the washer from control rod (2).
Remove two washers (6).
Remove pin (9) from control rod (2).
Repeat Step 6 through Step 8 for the remaining end of control rod (2).
Remove control rod (2). The weight of control rod (2) is 61 kg (134 lb).

Position control rod (2) onto a suitable bench.

Use Tool (B) to remove retaining ring (10) from control rod (2).
Rotate control rod (2) onto the other side.

Use Tool (B) to remove retaining ring (11) from control rod (2).
Use Tool (C) (not shown) and a suitable press to remove bearing (12) from control rod (2).
Repeat Steps 12 through 15 for the remaining bearing.Installation Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before installation, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags shouldnot be usedto dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Use Tool (B) to install retaining ring (11) onto control rod (2).
Rotate control rod (2) so that retaining ring (11) is on the bottom.

Lower the temperature of bearing (12) to a temperature of −50 °C (−58 °F).
Position bearing (12) into the bore of control rod (2) for installation.
Use Tool (C) and a suitable press to install bearing (12) into control rod (2).Note: A band retains the bearing race. The bearing race is split into two parts. After the bearing is installed by one-third of the final depth, remove the band. Finish the installation of the bearing.

Use Tool (B) to install retaining ring (10) into control rod (2).
Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the remaining bearing.

Before the installation of control rod (2), apply 4C-5591 Anti-Seize Compound to the pin bores.
Use a suitable lifting sling and a hoist to position control rod (2) for installation.
Install pin (9) into control rod (2).
Install washer (6) onto bolt (8). Install bolt (8) into pin (9).
Install washer (6) onto bolt (8).
Install full nut (7) and the washer onto bolt (8).
Repeat Step 10 through Step 13 for the other end of control rod (2).
Remove the lifting sling from control rod (2).

Connect two hose assemblies (4) and (5) to control rod (2).

Remove the blocking that is between frame assembly (1) and A-frame (3).

Remove Tooling (A) from the frame assembly of the truck.
