Lower the temperature of bushing (22) to a temperature of -40 °C (-40 °F). Use Tooling (E) and Tooling (F) to install the bushing in the steering housing.

Note: If bushing (22) is split, position the split at the top of the bore.
Install bushing (22) until the bushing is even with the inner counterbore in the steering housing. Position lubrication groove (X), as shown.
Apply 6V-6640 Sealant to the outer diameter of lip type seal (16). Use Tooling (B) to install the lip type seal in the steering housing. Install the seal until the seal makes contact with the counterbore in the steering housing. Install the seal with the sealing lip toward the inside of the steering housing. Apply 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease to the lip of the seal.

Note: Install two new 8U-5690 Plugs in location (P) if a new steering housing is used or if there is oil leakage. The plugs are not part of the steering housing. The plugs are available separately. Use Tooling (E) to install the plugs in the new steering housing.
Install sun gear (15) and axle shaft (14) in steering housing (8). The weight of the axle shaft and the sun gear is approximately 16 kg (35 lb). The weight of the steering housing is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).
Attach Tooling (A) to the steering housing. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A) .

Apply 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease on seal washer (13). Install the seal washer in lower trunnion (9) .
Install bearing cap (12). Install the bearing cap with the flat face against the seal washer.
Apply 4C-5591 Anti-Seize Compound on the bearing surface of lower trunnion (9). Heat bearing cone (11) to a temperature of 135 °C (275 °F). Install the bearing cone on lower trunnion (9). Make sure that the bearing cone is correctly seated against bearing cap (12). Apply 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease to bearing cone (11) .

Note: Rotate the axle shaft by hand in order to engage the splines on the axle shaft with the front differential.
Carefully install steering housing (8), axle shaft (14) and sun gear (15) in the front axle as a unit. The weight of the unit is approximately 48 kg (105 lb).
Align the pin bores in the steering housing with the bearing bore in the front axle housing. Install lower trunnion (9). Install four bolts (10). Do not remove the lifting device at this time.

Apply 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease to seal washer (7). Install the seal washer in upper trunnion (3). Install bearing cap (5) on upper trunnion (3). Install the bearing cap with the flat face against the seal washer.
Apply 4C-5591 Anti-Seize Compound to the bearing surface of upper trunnion (3). Heat bearing cone (4) to a temperature of 135 °C (275 °F). Install the bearing cone on upper trunnion (3). Make sure that the bearing cone is correctly seated against bearing cap (5) .
