The power train electronic control module (ECM) uses the position of the variable shift control switch (4) and the engine speed in order to determine the autoshift points for the transmission. The variable shift control switch has three inputs to the power train electronic control module (ECM). The variable shift control switch allows the operator to select a range of operation for the system. The variable shift control switch has three settings: STANDARD position (1), INTERMEDIATE position (2), and ECONOMY position (3). The ECONOMY position allows the power train ECM to determine shift points at a lower engine speed. Each of the remaining positions increases the shift speeds. The STANDARD position forces the transmission to shift at a higher rpm than the INTERMEDIATE position.
