Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operate the machine in order to warm the transmission oil.
Park the machine on level ground. Lower the implement to the ground and apply slight downward pressure. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

(1) Transmission drain valve

(3) Middle bottom guard
Lower middle bottom guard (3) that is beneath the transmission. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Bottom Guard Lowering" for the correct procedure.
Locate transmission drain valve (1) on the bottom of the transmission. Note: The drain valve is an ecology drain valve.
Remove transmission drain plug (2) from transmission drain valve (1) in the bottom of the transfer gear case. Attach a hose to an oil drain coupling. Install the threaded end of the coupling into the drain valve in order to unseat the internal drain valve. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

Open hinged access plate (6) that is between the rear axle and the articulation joint on the left-hand side of the machine.
The transmission oil filler tube is located behind the hinged access plate. Remove transmission oil filler cap (5) from the transmission oil filler tube in order to ease drainage.
Remove the access plate that is between the rear axle and the articulation joint on the right-hand side of the machine.

(7) Transmission magnet screen assembly
Transmission magnet screen assembly (7) is located on the right-hand side of the transfer gear case. Use the following procedure to clean the transmission magnet screen:
Do not drop or rap the magnets against any hard objects. Replace any damaged magnets.

Remove cover retaining bolts and washers (15). Remove cover assembly (14) and o-ring seal (13).
Remove screen assembly (12) and magnet tube assembly (11).
Wash the screen assembly and the magnet tube assembly in a clean, nonflammable solvent. Magnets (10) can be removed from magnet tube (9) in order to make cleaning easier.
Install any magnets that were removed from the magnet tube for cleaning.
Install screen assembly (12) and magnet tube assembly (11).
Inspect o-ring seal (13) for damage. Replace the o-ring seal, if necessary. Install the o-ring seal and cover assembly (14).
Install and properly tighten cover retaining bolts (15).
Replace the transmission oil filter. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil Filter - Replace" for the correct procedure.
Remove the oil drain coupling and drain hose from transmission drain valve (1). Clean transmission drain plug (2). Install the transmission drain plug in the transmission
