Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: The hoist system and the brake system share common oil.Type 1
Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".

Remove drain plug (1) from filter housing (2). Drain the oil into a suitable container. Tighten the vent plug.
Replace the seal for the drain plug. Wash the drain plug with clean nonflammable solvent and install the drain plug.
Remove the filter housing from the filter base.
Remove the filter element from the filter housing. Properly discard the used filter element.
Replace the seal for the filter housing. Wash the filter housing with clean nonflammable solvent. Note: This is a reverse flow filter element. The clean side of the filter element is on the outside. Care must be taken to protect the outside of the filter element against contamination during element replacement.
Lubricate the seal on the new filter element with clean oil. Install the new filter element in the filter housing. Install the end cap on the filter housing to standard torque (77 10 Nm).
Lubricate the seal on the filter housing with clean oil. Install the filter housing on the filter base.
Start the engine and operate the engine at an idle for five minutes. Inspect the oil filter for leaks. Make any necessary repairs.
Check the oil level in the hoist/brake tank. If necessary, add oil. For the proper procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic Tank Oil Level - Check (Hoist and Brake System)". Type 2
Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".

Remove drain plug (3) from end cap (1). Drain the oil into a suitable container.
Replace the seal for the drain plug. Wash the drain plug-in clean nonflammable solvent and install the drain plug.
Remove the end cap from the filter housing.
Remove threaded rod (2).
Remove the filter element. Properly discard the used filter element.
Replace the seal for the end cap. Wash the end cap in clean nonflammable solvent.
Install the new filter element. Install threaded rod (2).
Install the end cap (1) on the filter housing until it bottoms out, then turn back one-quarter turn. Note: Do not torque it down.
Start the engine and operate the engine at an idle for 5 minutes. Inspect the oil filter for leaks. Make any necessary repairs.
Check the oil level in the hoist/brake tank. If necessary, add oil. For the proper procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic Tank Oil Level - Check (Hoist and Brake System)".
