Guidelines for Replacement of Discs
Replace the disc if any of the following conditions is true.
The disc is worn by twenty percent more than the wear of the other discs in the disc pack.
10 percent or more of the friction material has flaked off.
The friction material is easily chipped by light prying of a knife-like point.
The disc shows damage from contamination of the lubricating oil with water. The following examples are for the guidelines for replacement of the discs.
Do not use a disc that has seventy percent of the service life with new discs.
Do not use combinations of worn discs with 60 percent service life, 70 percent service life, and 90 percent service life.Note: The use or replacement of only a selected number of worn damaged brake discs may result in uneven wear and unequal brake cooling flow (heat dissipation) across the reused brake discs. Unequal flow of brake cooling oil may occur between the disc and the plate due to the different disc groove depths that are found in reused brake discs. The increase in temperature across individual brake discs can lead to glazing of the brake disc. This can result in higher loads to the brake discs that were replaced at the time of rebuild. This can cause premature failure and/or shorter overall component life.

Replace the plate if any of the following conditions is true.
The plate is worn to a thickness that is less than 2.29 mm (0.090 inch).
More than 10 percent of the surface area is scored.
The plate has deep radial grooves that could cut the friction material of the disc.
The plate is warped. A plate is considered to be warped if the plate cannot be flattened by the application of a 90 N (20 lb) force.
