Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Park the machine on a level surface. Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.
Remove drain plug (2) for filter housing (1). Drain the oil into a suitable container. Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug. Note: All of the oil from the filter may not drain when the drain plug from the bottom of the filter housing is removed.
Remove the filter housing and the filter element. Discard the used filter element.
Wash the filter housing in clean nonflammable solvent.
Inspect the seals in the filter base. If the seals are damaged, replace seals with new seals.
Install the new filter element in the housing. Install the housing.
Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Make sure that the parking brake is engaged. Check for leaks and make any necessary repairs. Note: The oil level in the transmission is supplied by the torque converter sump.
Check the oil level in the torque converter sump. If necessary, add oil. For the proper procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Tank Oil Level - Check".
