This CID 0596 FMI 14 diagnostic code is associated with the communication between the Transmission/Chassis ECM and the Implement ECM that is conducted on the Cat Data Link or the communication that is conducted over the SAE J1939 Data Link.The FMI 14 means that the Transmission/Chassis ECM is communicating with the Implement ECM on the involved data link. However, the Transmission/Chassis ECM is not receiving expected operating parameter information from the Implement ECM.When the CID 0596 FMI 14 diagnostic code is activated by the Transmission/Chassis ECM, a companion diagnostic code will be activated in order to indicate the data link that is involved. The companion diagnostic code that has been activated will be either of the following diagnostic codes:CID 0247 FMI 14 - SAE J1939 Data LinkCID 0248 FMI 14 - Cat Data LinkDetermine the "companion" diagnostic code that is activated simultaneously with the CID 0590 FMI 14 diagnostic code in order to determine the data link that is involved.Note: The "companion" code of the data link is cleared when the CID 0590 FMI 14 diagnostic code is cleared. The possible causes of the CID 0596 FMI 14 diagnostic code are listed below:
The software that is installed on the Implement ECM is incorrect.
The software that is installed on the Transmission/Chassis ECM is incorrect.
A new ECM has been installed and the ECM is not the correct part.Note: Ensure that the CID 0596 FMI 14 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. DETERMINE THE COMPANION DIAGNOSTIC CODE OF THE DATA LINK THAT IS ACTIVENote: If incorrect software or an incorrect control module is causing the problem, both of the companion diagnostic codes of the data link may be active.
