start by: a) remove steering clutches 1. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws in the piston. Pull the piston out of the steering clutch hub. Remove the ring from piston (1).2. Install a 5/8"-11 NC bolt 4" long and a nut through one of the holes in the steering clutch hub. Put a wood block in the bottom of the steering clutch case. Turn the steering clutch hub until the bolt makes contact with the wood block.3. Bend the lock straight. Remove the large nut.4. Remove the washer from the bevel gear shaft.5. Remove the pilot from the bevel gear shaft. Remove the ring from the pilot. 6. Install the large nut back on the bevel gear shaft until there is a clearance of .375 in. (9.5 mm) between the nut and the steering clutch hub. Install tooling (A) on the steering clutch hub. Remove the steering clutch hub. Remove tooling (A), nut and the steering clutch hub.Install Steering Clutch Hubs
Make sure the splines of the bevel gear shaft and the steering clutch hub are clean and dry.
1. Put the steering clutch hub in position on the bevel gear shaft. 2. Install the washer and tooling (A) on the hub. Push the steering clutch in position with a force of 35 to 40 tons (31.8 to 36.3 t).3. Remove tooling (A) and the washer.4. Check dimension (X) after the hub is installed. Dimension (X) must be .12 .03 in. (3.0 0.8 mm). 5. Install the ring on the pilot. Install pilot (1) on the bevel gear shaft.6. Install the ring on the piston. Put clean oil on piston (2) and install it in the steering clutch hub.7. Install the washer, lock and nut (3).8. Tighten the nut to a torque of 700 100 lb.ft. (949.1 135.6 N m). Bend the lock over the nut.end by: a) install steering clutches
