The radiator, radiator guard and fan assembly are removed for better photo illustration.1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. 2. Loosen the tension on belt tightener spring (1). Remove fan drive vee belts (2). 3. Remove four bolts (4). Remove elbow (3).4. Disconnect heater hose (5). 5. Remove five bolts (6). Remove water pump cover (7). 6. Remove water pump adapter (8). Remove the two O-ring seals from the adapter. 7. Loosen the bolt that holds the impeller on the water pump shaft approximately 1/8 in. (3.2 mm). Install tooling (A) and loosen impeller (9) from the shaft.8. Remove tooling (A). Remove the bolt and the impeller from the water pump shaft. 9. Remove seal assembly (11). Remove ring (10) and the seal.Install Water Pump Seal
Clean water only is permitted for use as a lubricant for assistance at installation. Do not damage or put hands on the wear surface of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring. Install the ceramic ring with the smoothest face of the ring toward the carbon seal assembly.
1. Put ceramic ring (1) in position in the rubber seal. Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the replacement seal group) to install the ceramic ring and seal in the water pump housing. 2. Remove the spring from the seal assembly (2). Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the replacement seal group) to install the seal assembly. Push the seal assembly on the water pump shaft until the seal and ceramic ring faces make light contact.3. Install the spring on the seal assembly over the shaft. 4. Install impeller (3) on the water pump shaft. Install the washer and bolt that holds the impeller in position. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 29 2 lb.ft. (39 3 N m). 5. Install O-ring seals (4) and (6) in the adapter. Put adapter (5) in position on the water pump. Make sure notch in adapter is in alignment with the dowel in the water pump housing. 6. Install cover (7) on the water pump. Install the five bolts that hold the water pump cover to the water pump. 7. Install elbow (8) to the water pump. Install the four bolts that hold the elbow in position. Connect heater hose (9) to the water pump.8. Install the fan drive vee belts.9. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level.
