"DIAGNOSTIC" lamp is used to indicate the existence of an active fault by flashing codes.Viewing Diagnostic Flash CodesCaterpillar has developed a proprietary diagnostic flash code that uses two digits for diagnostic identification. The two digits can be determined by observing the "Diagnostic Lamp". The lamp will flash in order to identify the flash code. The flash code identifies active codes that have occurred after the ECM is energized.An OEM installed diagnostic lamp is required in order to indicate the condition of the diagnostic flash code to the operator.Determine the flash code by the following procedure:
Count the flashes on the "Diagnostic Lamp" in order to determine the first digit.
A two second pause will occur before the lamp flashes for the second digit.
Count the flashes in order to determine the second digit.
All of the active codes that are received by the ECM will be displayed if more than one diagnostic condition occurs. The flash code identifies active codes that have occurred after the ECM is energized. The two digit code for each diagnostic condition will flash with a five second pause between the flash codes. A fault diagnostic code will remain active until the problem is repaired. The electronic control module will continue flashing the flash code at five second intervals until the problem is repaired.
