1. Bend the lock tab away from the notch in the 5P9603 Nut. See Illustration 2.
Illustration 2.2. Turn the nut counterclockwise to move the nut out of the threads. Clean the dirt, corrosion and paint off the threads, as shown in Illustration 3, and put some oil on them.
Illustration 3.3. Hit the side of the seal carrier/spacer with a mallet to loosen it from the shaft.4. Install the 5P9603 Nut on the threads. Then, install the FT1499 Offset Spanner Wrench on the small end of the shaft as shown in Illustration 4.

With the wheel in rotation, put 296 13 N m (218 10 lb ft) of torque on the 5P9603 Nut, as shown in Illustration 5. Use a Torque Computer Form No. SEHS7150 to find the correct torque to use with the FT1499 Offset Spanner Wrench. The distance between the centers of the square drive and the lugs on the FT1499 is 203 mm (8").

6. One of the tabs on the lock ring will be in alignment with a notch on the 5P9603 Nut. Use the tab and notch for a reference. Turn the 5P9603 Nut counterclockwise one tab and bend the tab into the notch. See Illustration 6.
