Loosening of the bolts which fasten the retainer plate for the track roller frame has occurred. The bolts secure the 8P-8629 Plate to the 8E-0137 Pivot Shaft. Bolt loosening may be due to either the use of incorrect bolts, incorrect tightening torque or both.The use of zinc plated bolts or other plated bolts, even when torqued to the correct level initially, may result in bolt torque relaxation over time. This will result in the roller frames becoming loose.Solution:
When installing a track roller frame, inspect all the parts, including the ends of the bores in the frame and the threads in the pivot shaft to ensure that they are not damaged.Install the roller frame completely on the 6Y-7496 Shaft before tightening the 0L-1178 Bolts to 475 60 N m (350 37 lb ft) as specified in the Service Manual, Form No. SENR4704-01, May 1992. (0L-1178 Bolts have a phosphate and oil coating and are the bolts called for in the Parts Manual.)When the bolts are tight, there should be 2 0.8 mm (0.078 0.030 in) end play between the roller frame and the retainer plate.COPYRIGHT 1994 CATERPILLAR ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
