start by: a) remove timing gear cover1. Check to be sure the No. 1 piston is at top center compression position. Install the timing pin in the flywheel and in the fuel injection pump. Remove the bolt and the washer that hold gear (1) to the fuel injection pump. 2. Install tooling (A) on gear (1). Remove gear (1) for the fuel injection pump.
Hold puller with hand to prevent injury when gear is removed from shaft.
3. Remove bolts (2) and retainer (4). Remove idler gear (5). Remove bolts (3). Remove camshaft gear (6). 4. Remove the bearing from the idler gear with tooling (B). 5. Remove the nuts that hold the fuel injection pump housing to studs (7) in the timing gear plate.6. Remove bolts (8) that hold the lock and the timing gear plate to the cylinder block.7. Remove the bolts that hold lock (9) and the timing gear plate to the cylinder block. 8. Remove plate (10) for the timing gears. Remove the gasket.Install Timing Gears And Plate
1. Install a new gasket on the plate for the timing gears. Put timing gear plate (1) in position on the cylinder block. Install nuts (3) that hold the timing gear plate to fuel injection pump housing (2). Install bolts (6) and locks (5) that hold the timing gear plate to the cylinder block. Bend the locks against the bolts. 2. Install gear (4) for the camshaft. Make sure the timing mark on gear (4) is in alignment with the timing mark on the gear for the crankshaft. Install the bolts that hold the gear.3. Install the bearing in the idler gear with tooling (A). Install the idler gear, the retainer and the bolts that hold it.4. Install the gear for the fuel injection pump. Install the bolt and the washer that hold it to the pump shaft. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 110 5 lb.ft. (149.1 6.8 N m).5. Remove the timing pins from the flywheel and from the fuel injection pump. Install them in their original positions.end by: a) install timing gear cover
