Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install".
Remove the fan drive mounting group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive Mounting Group - Remove and Install".
Remove the fuel rail and the fuel manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Rail and Fuel Manifold - Remove".
Remove the fuel filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install".
Remove the inlet manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Inlet Manifold - Remove".
Remove the rocker arm and shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Arm and Shaft - Remove".
Remove the unit injectors. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Unit Injector - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove tube assembly (1) .

Remove bolts (4) .
Remove bolts (3) and bracket (2) .

Note: Examine bolts (5) for wear or for damage. Refer to Reuse And Salvage Guidelines, SEBF8301, "Inspection and Reuse of Critical Fasteners Used in All Engines". Replace with new bolts (5) , if necessary.
Remove bolts (5) and bolts (6) .

Attach a suitable lifting device to cylinder head (7) . The weight of cylinder head (7) is approximately 147 kg (325 lb). Remove cylinder head (7) .
