The original article has been revised to add effectivity.Caterpillar does not recommend aftermarket insulation on the exhaust components. Damage to exhaust components has been reported for machine engines with aftermarket insulation on the exhaust manifold and/or on the turbocharger. Increased fuel, oil, and water temperatures have been reported.In selected instances, Caterpillar may provide the insulation as an option from the factory. Ordering insulation as an option from the factory will ensure that the entire balance of heat of the engine is considered. The heat load will be addressed at the factory.
