Separate the final drive and the wheel from the service brake. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive and Wheel from Service Brake - Separate".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove plates (1) and friction discs (3) from brake housing (2).

Remove hub (4) from the brake housing.

Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (5) from hub (4).

Install Tooling (B) on brake housing (2). The large plate is installed under the springs.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Use Tooling (B) in order to compress the springs. Remove pins (6) from the guides.

Refer to the following steps for the removal of thrust washer (12).Note: Do not apply heat directly to the brake housing. Excessive heat may reduce the service life of brake housing (2).
Remove screws (13). Raise the temperature of thrust washer (12) in order to release the material that was used for bonding.
Remove thrust washer (12) from brake housing (2).
