EngineG3516C (S/N: N1S1-UP)Power ModulePMG3516 (S/N: JKK1-366)The new fuel pressure film warns against using an outsource fuel pressure greater than 48 kPa (7 psi), that could damage the internal diaphragm of the gas train low-pressure regulator. The following changes are adaptable to the products within the listed serial numbers, and are effective with all products after the listed serial numbers.
Illustration 1 g06117709The new film will be placed above the gas inlet connection on the outside of the container on future Caterpillar® products. The inlet fuel pressure must not exceed 48 kPa (7 psi). If the inlet fuel pressure exceeds 48 kPa (7 psi), then a pressure regulator and over-pressure device should be used as defined in the National Fire Protection Association Code 54 Section 5 and 49 CFR Part 192.201.Caterpillar recommends customers review the design and installation of the incoming gas equipment and distribution system. Incoming gas should be regulated between 20 to 48 kPa (3 to 7 psi). An overpressure protection device should be utilized to protect the power module from main line/distribution regulator failures, and pressure spikes due to full load, full gas flow engine stoppages.Listed below are different conditions that can cause failure of the diaphragm:
Uncontrolled system overpressure that exceeds 48 kPa (7 psi).
Field misapplication, lack of, improperly set, or inadequate/slow response time of pressure spike protection externally to this device during full load stoppages and upstream regulator failures.
Debris in the system, restricting sensing lines, vent lines, and/or orifices that prevent the external system to provide the intended overpressure protection.
Opening upstream automated or manual valves too quickly causing shock to the diaphragm.
Failure to bleed off test pressure after leak test/inspections and before opening upstream valves. Sometimes, water is used in the test process. Make sure all the piping is thoroughly dried after such tests.
