Introduction
There is some confusion surrounding the interpretation of the rated amperage handling capability of Tmax Frame and the long inverse time delay setting (L-time) on certain ABB circuit breakers.Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.Safety Section
Isolate the generator set before commencing any work on the unit, open generator set breaker, activate Emergency Stop, disconnect the battery cables, and either disconnect or open the control circuit breaker for the AC power supply to the battery charger. Ensure that all health and safety requirements are adhered to always. Also, ensure proper Lock Out-Tag Out procedures are followed always while work is being performed on the machine. Lock out generator operation and disconnect/lockout all power sources before commencing any work.Instructions

Breaker Part Number
The rated amperage handling capabilities of Tmax Frame ABB circuit breakers may be misinterpreted as being incorrect if it is assumed to be given as a part of circuit breakers part number shown at the top of the front fascia.

The actual rating of the unit is shown on a tab that is hidden beneath the toggle cover.

The rated breaker capability may also be shown on the trip unit.
It should be noted that Caterpillar only provides 100% rated, UL certified breakers on the North America Retail product. The L-time setting on the trip unit should be verified and adjusted accordingly. Confusion may be introduced if the originally supplied breaker is replaced using and IEC breaker. Although both the UL and IEC circuit breakers may have the same rating and use the same model of trip unit, the L-time and other settings on the trip units may be different.
For example, a T6 Frame, 600 A, 100% Rated UL breaker and a T6 breaker and a T6 frame, 600 A, 100% Rated IEC breaker use the same trip unit but will have two different labels. What is of note is that on the PR222DS/P trip unit used on both circuit breakers has different L-time settings on the trip units. Within the ABB catalog the breakers are listed as follows:

T6 Frame, 600 A, 100% Rated IEC breaker - 3-6-12-18
