Information:

High voltage may be present. The power source must be disconnected before working on the equipment. Failure to disconnect the power source could result in injury or death. Verify that the equipment is not energized before performing any maintenance. This work must be performed by trained personnel with correct tools and procedures.
Bodily contact with electrical potential can cause bodily injury or death. To avoid the possibility of injury or death, ensure that the main power supply has been disconnected before performing any maintenance or removing any modules.

The electrical power connections must be inspected in regular weekly intervals. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manuals for the maintenance schedule. The inspection is important when the packaged power conductors include rectangular braids for power conductors. The extra weight of the copper conductors contributes to the following conditions:
Sagging of the conductors.
Contact of the conductors with the bus bars or the box structure. The above mentioned conditions can lead to the following, if the conditions are not corrected during regular maintenance:
Insulation damage
Deterioration of the protective sleeve
Electrical shortsCorrect Installation
Properly installed and maintained braids include 7H-8213 Mat and 7K-1181 Cable Strap to prevent the following:
Phase to phase rubbing of the braids
Contacts of the braids with the terminal box
Illustration 1 g02146533
Refer to Illustration 1 for correctly maintained power conductors with one conductor per phase:
The middle phase (L2 or B) is wrapped with a mat.
The other phases (L1, L3, or A,C) are bundled and wrapped with an additional mat and cable ties.
The neutral and ground cables are wrapped and separately tied.
Illustration 2 g02147466
Refer to Illustration 2 for an installation with two cable braids per phase:
The individual phases shall be wrapped and bundled as similar as mentioned in the Step 1 to Step 3.
Two phases (L2, L3 or B, C) and (L1, N or A, N) are bundled together, as extra conductors are difficult to be bundled altogether.Guidelines for inspection of electrical power connections
Perform weekly inspection in order to identify some of the common indications of the braid insulation failures. Check the following, when an installation in service is inspected:
Sagging braids
Chaffing on sharp edges or chaffing on the terminal box
Missing mats, loose mats, or ties
Damaged braids, cut braids, melted braids, or burned insulation sleeve on the braids
Loose connections
Loose wiring, unsupported wiring, or damaged instrumentation wiring
Loose or unsupported current transformers
Loose or unsupported ground cables

The braids that have collapsed by self weight can contact the bus bars, brackets, or any other objects in the terminal box. In such a situation, use an additional mat or strap to support the braids. Refer to Illustration 3. If the length of the braid is too long, contact DSN for optimal length of the braided cables or consider installing silicone cables.

A sagging braid can be damaged
