Overview
The Tachometer module has two main components, the tachometer gauge to show engine speed (RPM) and a two digit readout for gear position.
Illustration 1 g01221935
(1) Zero-RPM value. The angular needle deflection is 0 angular degrees. (2) Speed window (3) Measurement window (4) Two-digit gear position readout (5) Engine over-speed red zone. The angular degree is typically 150 degrees. (6) Highest engine speed (RPM). The angular degrees is 225.If the Speed-Tach is chosen to discontinue its' display, the Caterpillar Monitoring System continues to calculate the values for the tachometer and the vehicle speed in the event that a different display method is chosen.Tachometer Module Definitions
If the engine or vehicle speeds come from the CDL, provide the MID that transmits the information and the PID that contains the information. If either of these inputs is through a frequency input to the Caterpillar Monitoring System, then defining the frequency input, the part number, the number of gear teeth, and the pulses per revolution will also be required. Primary Tachometer Configuration
Table 1
Tachometer Configuration Table
Input Type    Minimum Value    Start of Red Zone    RPM in Full Red    Full Scale RPM
Example CDL     0 RPM     2000 RPM     2200 RPM     3000 RPM
CDL     0 RPM     2800         3000    Whenever the Caterpillar Monitoring System receives an engine over-speed status (value 01, indicating an over-speed) from the engine ECM, the tachometer needle "sticks" for 30 seconds in the current position before coming down to a lower value. While the engine remains in the over-speed condition, the Caterpillar Monitoring System generates a Level 2 or Level 3 warning depending on the severity of the over-speed.The Yellow Zone on the tachometer corresponds to an engine speed range of 2500 to 2700 RPM.
Table 2
Speedometer Configuration Table
Input Type    Minimum Value    Maximum Value
Example CDL     0 MPH/0 KPH     62 MPH/100Km
CDL     0     10.0 MPH
