On 290-1671, 301-3350, and 338-8585 Track Adjuster and Recoil Gp, the track adjust piston may contact the track adjust cylinder near the bottom edge causing material to be removed from both the piston and the cylinder.

Solution
It is not necessary to repair or replace the piston or cylinder. The track adjust grease seal is on the end of the piston. Even with fully worn undercarriage and a maximum extended piston, the grease seal will not reach the area of damage on the cylinder.The only risk when continuing to operate with a damaged piston or cylinder is the entry of foreign material past the cylinder wiper seal. Over a significant amount of time this foreign material could deteriorate the cylinder bore, wear bands, or grease seal. Therefore, it is critical to maintain cleanliness inside the track roller frame.
Follow Service Magazine , M0067396 to replace the grease seal thrust washer. If cylinder bore damage was found in the thrust washer area, the cylinder must be repaired or replaced
Replace the piston grease seal, the cylinder wiper seal, and the bulkhead wiper seals.
Apply grease to the entire cylinder bore.
Grease the bulkhead through the provided zerk.
If the machine will be operating in submerged, semi-submerged, or corrosive elements, follow Service Magazine , SEPD1896 to install a bulkhead seal cover.
Inspect the accumulator to ensure proper nitrogen charge.
Clean inside the track roller frame.
Follow Service Magazine , SEPD1976 to install an improved track roller frame access cover.
Follow the recoil group installation instructions and ensure that sealant is installed between the bulkhead and the track roller frame.
