Remove Flywheel Housing
Start By:a. remove air cleaner housing assemblyb. remove auxiliary sea water pumpc. remove flywheeld. remove crankshaft rear seal and wear sleevee. remove air starting motorFluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Remove exhaust crossover tube. Remove bolts (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) and (6) from the oil pan. 2. Loosen oil pan bolts (7) and allow the pan to drop about 6.4 mm (.25 in) for some clearance. 3. Remove cover (8). 4. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to the flywheel housing.5. Remove bolts (9) and (10). Remove flywheel housing (11). The weight of the flywheel housing is approximately 86 kg (190 lb). 6. Remove gasket (12).Install Flywheel Housing
1. Install a new gasket (1) on the engine block. 2. Install two suitable guide bolts in the engine block.3. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to the flywheel housing (2) and put it in position on the engine. 4. Install the bolts (4) that hold the flywheel housing in position. Put 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant on the four bolts (3) for installation of the housing to the engine block. 5. Tighten the bolts that hold the flywheel housing to the block in the sequence that follows: a. Tighten bolts 1 thru 8 in number sequence to 135 14 N m (100 10 lb ft).b. Tighten bolts 9 thru 20 in number sequence to 55 7 N m (40 5 lb ft).c. Again tighten bolts 1 thru 8 in number sequence to 135 14 N m (100 10 lb ft).d. Again tighten bolts 9 thru 20 in number sequence to 55 7 N m (40 5 lb ft). 6. Install cover (5). 7.
