Information:

Inlet Air Temperature - Air temperature between the after cooler, and the cylinder head.Turbocharger Inlet Temperature - Air temperature entering the compressor housing.Turbocharger Turbine Intake Air Temperature - The calculation of the exhaust temperature entering the turbocharger turbine. This event code is not an indication that further diagnosis and repair should be performed. Continued operation of the engine in this condition is acceptable. This procedure should only be performed when combined with a low-power complaint. It is not likely that the source of this event code is caused by an engine problem, but rather an installation or vessel-specific problem.Note: This event code is generated from elevated inlet air temperature and/or turbocharger inlet temperature. This is not a direct measurement of the turbine inlet temperature.
Table 1
Event Code
Description    Conditions which Activate the Code    System Response
E105(1) Turbocharger Turbine Intake Air Temperature High Derate     The inlet air temperature and/or the turbocharger inlet temperature has exceeded a programmed trip point, and high exhaust temperature is enabled.     The code is logged. Engine power is derated.
E105(2)Turbocharger Turbine Intake Air Temperature High Derate     The inlet air temperature and/or the turbocharger inlet temperature has exceeded a programmed trip point, and high exhaust temperature is disabled.     The code is logged. Engine power is derated.    Note: Severity does not apply to event code E105.Note: The trip points for Inlet Air Temperature and Turbocharger Inlet Temperature can be found in the Technical Marketing Information under the Ambient Capability Chart.Probable Causes
High Turbocharger Inlet Temperature
High Inlet Air TemperatureRecommended Repairs
Table 2
Troubleshooting Test Steps     Values     Results
1. High Turbocharger Inlet Temperature
A. Determine if the ambient air temperature is within the design specifications for engine room ventilation. Time versus Turbocharger Inlet Temperature and Inlet Air temperature records while event E105 is active. Utilize the histogram and ambient capability chart to determine if the turbocharger inlet air temperature is the cause of the E105 code.

Histogram

Result: The turbocharger inlet temperature is within specification.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: The turbocharger inlet temperature is NOT within specification.
Determine the cause of the high turbocharger inlet temperature. Make corrections if necessary. Utilize Application and Installations Guides LEBW4969 and LEBW4971 if necessary.

2. High Inlet Air Temperature
A. Time vs Turbo Inlet Temperature And Inlet Air Temperature" records while event E105 is active. Utilize the histogram and ambient capability chart to determine if the turbocharger inlet air temperature is the cause of the E105 code.
Inlet air
Troubleshooting, "Inlet Air Temperature is High"
3. Turbocharger Inlet Temperature Sensor
A. Utilize Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) in order to check the turbocharger inlet temperature.     Sensor
Result:
The temperature sensor is reasonable.
STOP
Result:
The temperature is NOT reasonable.
Troubleshoot the circuit and temperature sensor. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Sensor Signal (Analog, Passive) - Test".
