3500 Series EnginesA special procedure is necessary to use the 6V3075 Dial Indicator for fuel settings on some 3500 Series Engines. The dial indicator is part of the 6V3139 Timing and Fuel Setting Tool Group. The dial indicator has a total travel distance of 25 mm. It moves 7 mm in the negative direction and 18 mm in the positive direction.
All fuel settings for 3500 Series Engines are positive. Some settings are more than the 18 mm positive range on the dial indicator. For this reason, you must follow a special procedure to use the 6V3075 Dial Indicator.
Follow these steps:
1. Find out the fuel setting specification before you install the dial indicator.2. Follow the instructions in the Service Manual to install the dial indicator. If the fuel setting specification for the engine is greater than 18 mm, set the needle on -5 mm instead of zero. This will give you enough travel to make the measurement correctly.3. Put the linkage against the fuel setting screw and read the indicator. Add 5 mm to the indicator reading; this total is the actual fuel setting.
