Problem
The fuel tank bottom plate may crack in the welded area of the tank mounting plate, causing fuel to leak.

Action Required
After removing the fuel tank, repair the cracks and weld a new mounting plate assembly on the tank bottom plate. See the attached Rework Procedure.

1. Fabricate a reinforcing plate (Item 1) from 6 mom thick A36 plate. See Illustration 1.2. Fabricate two mounting plates (Item 2 and Item 3) from 19 mom A36 plate or 75 X 19 mom flat bar. See Illustration 2.3. Weld the two mounting plates (Item 2 and Item 3) to the reinforcing plate (Item 1) to make a reinforcing plate assembly (Item 4). Then make four threaded holes as shown in Section A-A. See Illustration 3.4. Completely remove all fuel from the tank.5. Remove the tank from the machine following the Disassembly and Assembly Manual.6. Clean both the inside and outside of the fuel tank with detergent.7. Remove the two mounting plates from the bottom plate of the tank by cutting the weld beads with a cutting grinder. Grind off any remaining beads from the bottom plate completely.8. Use a dye penetrant to visually check for cracks.9. Using a cutting torch, cut a "vee" in the cracks to prepare for the weld repairs.10. Remove all paint, moisture and any other foreign material from the area to be repaired (approximately 50 mm on each side of the crack).11. Use E7016 electrode or equivalent to weld the cracks. After welding, grind the weld flat in the area where the reinforcing plate assembly is to be installed.12. Remove all foreign material from the areas where the reinforcing plate assembly is to be installed.13. Put the reinforcing plate assembly in position on the tank bottom plate. Use E7016 electrode or equivalent to weld. See Illustration 4.14. Clean and paint the repaired areas of the tank. Clean the tank inside before filling with fuel.15. Install on the machine following the Disassembly and Assembly manual.
