This diagnostic trouble code is recorded when the interface module has an internal failure.System Response:When this diagnostic trouble code is active, the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) will be unable to control the solenoid for the warmup valve. The ET will read the voltage of the solenoid circuit as being below normal, which is an indication of an open circuit. The ET will be unable to energize the solenoid.Test Step 1. CHECK THE ECM
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Wait for 30 seconds.
Turn the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Allow the self test to run fully before you proceed to the next step.
Check the message center for an active diagnostic trouble code.Expected Result:The CID 1405 FMI 11 diagnostic code is no longer present.Results:
OK - The diagnostic trouble code of CID 1405 FMI 11 is no longer present. Resetting the interface module has resolved the diagnostic trouble code.STOP
NOT OK - The diagnostic trouble code of CID 1405 FMI 11 is still active. The interface module has failed.Repair: Check the circuit again. Use the Cat Electronic Technician (ET) service tool to test the wiring harness of the machine. Manipulate the wires and monitor Cat ET for changes in output. This test can detect intermittent short circuits or momentary open circuits in the wiring harness of the machine.A failure of the Chassis ECM is unlikely. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic trouble code is not found, replace the ECM. Prior to replacing an ECU, always contact your Technical Communicator of the dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time.
