Install the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Remove and Install".
Remove the front tires and rims. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim - Remove".
Install the lift arm support pins. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Lift Arm Support Pins - Remove and Install".
Release the oil pressure from the braking system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be cleaned thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies to prevent fluid loss, and help to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from removing hoses or fittings in a pressure system.Failure to relieve pressure can cause personal injury.Do not disconnect or remove hoses or fittings until all pressure in the system has been relieved.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Drain the front axle housing and the final drive assemblies into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the capacity of the front axle housing and the final drive assemblies. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil (With Axle Oil Cooler) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil (Without Axle Oil Cooler) - Change" for the correct draining procedure.

Disconnect vent hose assembly (1) .

Disconnect hose assembly (2) .

Disconnect hose assemblies (3) , (4) and (5) .

Remove four bolts (7) .
Separate spider assembly (8) from yoke (6) .

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the front axle assembly. The weight of the front axle assembly is approximately 1495 kg (3295 lb).

Remove 12 locknuts (11) .
Remove 12 nuts (10) and 12 bolts (9) that attach the front axle assembly to the front frame.
Lower the front axle assembly to the ground.
