(K) Light digging or unloading should be performed over the side of the machine
(L) Heavy digging zone should be approximately 15 degrees from center-line (over the idlers)
(M) IdlersProper operating practices should also be followed in order to extend the service life of the track shoes. Limit the amount of digging that is done over the side of the machine. This type of digging can create increased loads on the track shoes, which can lead to bending of the shoe over time. Heavy digging should be performed over the idlers. Light digging or unloading should be performed over the side of the machine.

Correct bench preparation
Ensure that the bench is prepared properly, with a smooth surface big enough to fully support both tracks. This will allow the machine weight and digging forces to be equally distributed across the entire track. The bench needs to be sufficiently tall so material isn’t forced into the undercarriage when curling the bucket backward during a dig.
