At Operating temperature, the engine cooling system is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap on the radiator is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Drain the coolant into a suitable container. The capacity of the cooling system is 60.6 liters (16 U.S. gal). 2. Remove water outlet pipe (1). Check the condition of the gaskets located beneath the flange ends of the outlet pipe, and replace as needed.3. Remove two bolts and washers from inlet pipe (3). Separate pipe (3) from water pump (2). Check the condition of the gasket beneath inlet pipe, and replace if needed.4. Remove the two bolts and the wire support clip from alternator support bracket (4).
Typical Example5. Remove four bolts and washers (5).6. Remove water pump (2) from the back of engine cover (6). Clean and inspect the O-ring located beneath water pump (2) for wear or damage. Replace if needed. The following steps are for the installation of the water pump.7. Lubricant the bore with the lubricant being sealed, and position the O-ring and water pump (2) onto the back of engine cover (6).8. Install and evenly tighten four bolts and washers (5).9. Install the wire support clip and two bolts into alternator support bracket (4).10. Install gasket and pipe (3).11. Install gaskets and pipe (1).12. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See "Lubricant Viscosities & Refill Capacities" in the Operations & Maintenance Manual.
