Personal injury or death can result from a compressed recoil spring being released suddenly using incorrect disassembly procedures.A recoil spring that is still held in compression can result in the recoil spring being released unexpectedly with extreme force which could cause serious injury or death.Make sure that the correct disassembly procedure is used, if a front track roller frame that has a crack in the parent metal or weld connection (or a tubular section that has separated from the front of the frame assembly) when the recoil spring is still held in compression.Refer to Special Instruction, SMHS8273 which contains the disassembly procedure that must be used to decrease the possibility of injury while performing service on the track roller frame.

Typical Example
Personal injury or death can result from a recoil spring in compression.A compressed recoil spring can suddenly release.Install the tooling before working on a compressed recoil spring.
Install Tooling (A) in the following manner.
Install studs (1) in the track roller frame.
Install plate (2) on studs (1). Secure plate (2) to studs (1) with the washers and locknuts (3).
Support cylinder (4) with a suitable lifting device. The weight of cylinder (4) is approximately 72 kg (159 lb). Position cylinder (4) on plate (2). Secure cylinder (4) to plate (2) with bolts (5).
Install adapter (6) on the rod of cylinder (4).
Install adapter (9), coupling adapter (7), and pin (8) on adapter (6).
Excessive pressure applied to cylinder (4) can develop enough force to break studs (1) and/or plate (2). This can result in personal injury or death. Do not apply more than the maximum assembly pressure listed below for the correct model when using cylinder (4). A problem exists if compressing of the recoil spring requires a pressure greater than the maximum listed. Stop the procedure. Determine and correct the cause of the problem before proceeding with assembly.
Note: Do not exceed 89000 kg (196211.0 lb) of force when you use cylinder (4). Do not exceed 6680 kPa (969.0 psi) of pressure when you use cylinder (4).Note: Support (11) must be aligned with the track roller frame and recoil spring (12). Alignment is done while the recoil spring is compressed with Tooling (A).
Use Tooling (A) to apply pressure to compress recoil spring (12). Compress recoil spring (12) enough to fit pins (10) in the track roller frame.
Apply Tooling (C) to pins (10). Install pins (10).
