The new 8W9543 Differential Group replaces the former 8W8740 Differential Group and the new 8W9550 Differential And Bevel Gear Group is a direct replacement for the former 5T1029 Differential And Bevel Gear Group in 789 Trucks. The former differential group and differential and bevel gear group are canceled. The new 8W9543 Differential Group and the new 8W9550 Differential And Bevel Gear Group are in effect with 789 Truck 9ZC200. The new 8W9550 Differential And Bevel Gear Group is adaptable to all earlier 789 Trucks. The new 8W9543 Differential Group is not directly adaptable to earlier 789 Trucks. To service the differential group and reuse the 5T5847 Carrier used in 789 Trucks 9ZC1 through 9ZC199, use the components listed in Chart C. The new components of the new 8W9543 Differential Group are shown in Illustration 3 and listed in Chart D. The new components of the new 8W9550 Differential And Bevel Gear Group are shown in Illustration 4 and listed in Chart E. ... Before assembling the 8W9543 Differential Group, put the ring gear in position on the 8W9459 Housing. Using the ring gear as a guide, ream one hole in the housing to 19.065 0.020 mm (.7506 .0008"). Install a bolt and nut in this hole to keep the ring gear in position. Ream the remaining holes to 19.065 0.020 mm (.7506 .0008"). Install the remaining bolts and nuts that fasten the ring gear to the housing. Tighten the twenty four 2K0337 Locknuts to a torque of 435 15 N m (320 11 lb ft).... When installing the 5M7329 Seal, lubricate the bore in the carrier assembly for the 5T5971 Cage Assembly with the lubricant being sealed.... Do not install the 5T5979 Seal in the 5T5971 Cage Assembly until after the pinion bearing preload is adjusted. Initially, with no 5T5923 or 5T5924 Shims installed, preload the pinion bearings so that a torque higher than 6.2 N m (55 lb in) is required to rotate the pinion. Rotate the pinion several times. Then preload the pinion bearings to so that a torque of 6.2 1.1 N m (55 10 lb in) is required to rotate the pinion. Install the 5T5923 and/or 5T5924 Shims required to maintain this preload.... Install the 5T5979 Seal in the 5T5971 Cage Assembly and lubricate sealing lip lightly with the lubricant being sealed. Tighten the sixteen 310223 Bolts that fasten the cage assembly to the carrier assembly to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 11 N m).... After assembly
