Information:
Slowing and Stopping the Machine
In order to slow the machine, release travel pedal (3) and depress service brake pedal (2) .Reference: The service brake pedal can be locked for periods of servicing. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Service Brake Pedal" for additional information on the service brake pedal. After you come to a complete stop, engage the parking brake by pressing parking brake control (4). See Illustration 3.Downhill Travel
Traveling down a grade with wheel excavators at low engine speed or when the travel pedal is not depressed completely can produce abnormally high oil temperatures in the travel motor curcuit. Abnormally high oil temperatures in this curcuit may damage the travel motor and cause seal failures in the transmission.
The following procedures must be observed during downhill travel:
Maintain a high engine speed in order to ensure that there is adequate circulation of hydraulic oil.
The travel pedal must be depressed completely. The automatic brake valve will maintain the speed of the machine.
Always turn the switch for automatic engine speed control to the OFF position during travel.
The creeper speed switch must be in the ON position and first gear must be selected for grades that are greater than 10 percent.
Second gear may be selected for grades less than 10 percent.
First gear should be used for downhill travel at a job site.Reduce engine speed when you maneuver the machine in tight quarters. Reduce the engine speed when you move over an incline.Select the necessary travel speed range before you start to travel downgrade. Do not change travel speed ranges while you go downhill.Do not allow machine overspeed while you travel downhill. Use the wheel brake pedal to reduce machine overspeed. When the load is pushing the machine, use the slow speed range. Use this range before you start to travel downgrade.Brake System
The parking brake is automatically engaged when the hydraulic pilot oil pressure drops below normal operating pressure. Personal injury could result from a sudden stop of the machine. If the hydraulic pilot oil pressure drops below normal operating pressure, a warning horn will sound, the parking brake indicator will come on, and the action light will come on. Be prepared for a sudden stop whenever the parking brake indicator comes on and the warning horn sounds.
Personal injury could result from the sudden stop of the machine.Be prepared for a sudden stop whenever the parking brake indicator comes on and the warning horn sounds. Correct the reason for the loss of oil pressure or any other cause of the automatic application of the parking brake. Machine movement without repair could result in personal injury or death.
Moving the machine with the parking brake engaged or the service brake pedal locked can cause excessive wear or damage to the brake. If necessary, have the brake repaired before operating the machine.
Hammer Operation (If Equipped)

Selection of a hydraulic hammer must be done with extra care. Use of a hydraulic hammer not recommended by Caterpillar could result in structural damage to the machine. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for
