Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and plug all tube assemblies. This helps prevent fluid loss, and this helps keep contaminants from entering the system.

Turn fuel shutoff valve (1) to the OFF position.

Secondary fuel filter on left side of engine
Use Tooling (A) in order to remove fuel filter (6) from base (3) .
Disconnect tube assembly (2). Remove two bolts (5) .
Remove base (3) and gasket (4) .Installation Procedure

Install gasket (4). Position base (3) and install two bolts (5) .
Connect tube assembly (2) .
Use Tooling (A) in order to install fuel filter (6) to base (3) .

Turn fuel shutoff valve (1) to the ON position.
