This Program can be administered eitherbefore or after failure. In either case the decision whether to apply theProgram is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS40278"as the Part number and "7755" as the Group Number. If adminstered beforefailure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" asthe SIMS Description Code. If adminstered after failure, use "96" as theWarranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. The information supplied in this serviceletter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Donot perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the terminationdate without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst. Cracks in the upper hitch boss area of the rearframe assembly need to be repaired on certain 992G Wheel Loaders. Fatiguecracking in the radial weld around the rear-frame, upper hitch boss areamay occur. Changes have been made to the front and rear frame assembliesto improve the articulation system.AFFECTED PRODUCT

If cracks are found in the upper hitch boss areaof the rear frame, or anytime the machine is separated, the front and rearframes need to be reinforced. Reference Special Instruction REHS0352-02for instructions for rebuilding and reinforcing 992G articulation hitches,and SENR5893 Disassembly and Assembly Manual. It is important that a thorough inspectionfor cracks in the hitch area be made and all cracks repaired.An additional reinforcement is now recommendedfor the lower portion of the upper hitch joint. See Illustration 1. Theadditional plate can be made from mild structural steel according to thedimensions in Illustration 2. This information will be added to SpecialInstruction REHS0352-02 as soon as possible. Install the new plate as shownin Illustration 3.SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES

This is an 91-hour job. This includes64 hours to disassemble and assemble the machine and 27 hours to installthe reinforcement material listed in REHS0352-02.
