1. Remove the guards that are over the hydraulic track adjuster, recoil spring and rear pilot.2. Tighten the track with the track adjuster. 3. Install a piece of round bar stock (1) that is 1.75 in. (44.5 mm) in diameter and 2.75 in. (69.9 mm) in length on the sprocket as shown.
Make sure the round bar stock is between the bushing and sprocket inside the links.
4. Start the engine and move the track backward. Move the track until the length of the spring (from inside the retainers) is a minimum of 19.75 in. (50.2 cm).
The spring in the recoil spring assembly is assembled under a force of several tons. Do not put the recoil spring under compression, or release the tension with the nut for the recoil spring bolt. Damaged threads on the recoil spring bolt or nut can cause the assembly to come apart and cause bodily injury.
5. Remove stop bolt (2) and the washers. Tighten nut (3) against the recoil spring retainer.6. Move the track forward and remove bar stock (1) from the sprocket.7. Make a separation of the track. See SEPARATION OF TRACKS on Page 181. 8. Install tool (A) with a hoist, remove two bolts and remove the track carrier roller and bracket (4) as a unit. The weight of the roller and bracket is 80 lb. (36 kg). 9. Remove bolt (5). Slide the front idler and rod forward as far as possible on the roller frame. 10. Remove two bolts from retainer (6). Remove retainer.11. Remove the bolts that hold bars (7) on both sides of the recoil spring.12. Fasten a hoist to the recoil spring. Remove the recoil spring and hydraulic track adjuster as a unit. The weight is 350 lb. (158 kg).Install Recoil Springs And Hydraulic Track Adjusters
1. Check to see that the recoil spring length (from inside the retainers) is assembled to a length of 19.75 in. (50.2 cm). 2. Fasten a hoist to the recoil spring. Put the recoil spring and hydraulic track adjuster in position on the roller frame. 3. Put bars (2) in position on both sides of the spring. Install the bolts that hold the bars in place. Install retainer (1) with the bolts that hold it.4. Slide the front idler and rod back into position. Install the bolt that holds the rod in the cover for the cylinder. 5. Put the track carrier roller and bracket (3) in position with tooling (A). Install the two bolts.6. Make a connection of the tracks. See CONNECTION OF TRACKS on Page 182. Do not make an adjustment to the track at this time. 7. Install a piece of round bar stock (4) that is 1.75 in. (44.5 mm) in diameter and 2.75 in. (69.9 mm) in length on the sprocket.

8. Start the engine and move the track backward until the pressure on nut (5) is released. If necessary, tighten the track to release
