Disassemble Torque Converter
start by:a) remove torque converter1. Remove the output flange (1) of the torque converter.2. Remove the retaining bolts (2) that fasten housing to the carrier.3. Install two 1/2" -13NC forged eyebolts in top of housing. Fasten a hoist and remove the torque converter housing (3). Weight is 130 lb (59 lb).4. Remove the O-ring seal from carrier.5. Remove the retaining bolts (4) for seal carrier. Remove seal carrier (5). Remove the lip-type seal from carrier.6. Install the retaining bolt of the output flange in the end of output shaft. Fasten a hoist and strap, and remove output shaft (6).7. Push the seal carrier and bearing assembly (7) from the output shaft using a press. Remove ring seal from the seal carrier.8. Remove the sleeve (9) from carrier (8).9. Remove carrier mounting bolts (10). Remove the carrier (8). Remove sleeve (11) from carrier.10. Remove the impeller and plate retaining bolts (12). Use four of the retaining bolts as forcing screws to disconnect impeller (14) and plate (13) from housing (15).CAUTION: When disconnecting impeller and plate from rotating housing, tighten the four forcing bolts the same amount each time to prevent damaging the impeller. 11. Remove the retaining ring (16) for the bearing assembly. Remove ring seal (18) and hub (17).12. Use tool setup (A) to remove the bearing carrier (20) and seal carrier (19) and seal carrier (19) from hub. Remove the bearing assembly and retaining ring from bearing carrier. Remove retaining ring from bearing assembly.13. Remove the bolts (21) that fasten the plate and impeller to the hub.14. Use a soft hammer and softly hit the hub to disconnect plate (13) and impeller (14) from hub (17).15. Remove the stator (23) and stator carrier (22) from rotating housing (15).16. Remove the ring seal from stator carrier.17. Remove the retainer (25), race (26), and bearing assembly (27). Remove the plate (28).18. Turn over the stator and carrier. Remove the plate retaining ring and plate.19. Remove the bearing (24) from stator carrier.20. Use oil with heat to make the stator (23) and stator carrier (22) a maximum temperature of 300°F (149°C) for ten minutes.CAUTION: Do not make the stator and carrier hotter than 300°F (149°C) or damage to stator may result.21. Immediately after putting heat on stator and stator carrier, use a press to disconnect the stator from the stator carrier.22. Remove the retaining ring from inside of the stator. 23. Remove the turbine (29) and hub (30) as one piece
