SHIM PACK 5K0988 - Caterpillar

The Caterpillar 3176C Industrial Engines have been modified in order to last in harsh offshore environments. The following modifications have been made: location of the engine ECM, changes of the engine sensors and location of the engine wiring. Details of modifications that were made to the engine are described below. Enclosure
The enclosure protects the engine ECM and the wiring connections from direct salt water spray. The control module is located inside a stainless steel enclosure. The enclosure has gland fittings for cables. The enclosure also has bulkhead fittings for fuel lines that are used to cool the electronics. The enclosure should be opened occasionally in order to check for any fuel leaks or damage to the wiring.Engine Sensors
The standard engine sensors have been modified. The standard engine harness connectors have been replaced with stainless steel connectors. The sensor wiring is protected with a nylon braid. The part numbers of the modified sensors are listed in Table 1.

The standard engine wire harness has also been removed from the CPS361 Cement Pumper. The harness has been replaced with marine shipboard cable. Each sensor has a cable and a stainless steel connector that mates with the connector that is used on the modified sensor assemblies. The following table lists the part number for the cable and the connector. Additionally, the connector from the standard engine harness that provides wiring to the fuel injectors has been removed. The connector has been replaced with a gland fitting for marine cables. Connectors for the ECAP and the tools for the timing probe are located inside the enclosure for the engine ECM.

The connector for the unit injectors that was located on the rocker box cover has been removed. The connector has been replaced with a gland fitting. A new rocker box cover is also used.
