The engine is shipped with an engine oil level gauge that is marked with "ADD" and "FULL" marks. This procedure should only be performed when the generator set is not installed in a perfectly horizontal plane. The engine oil level gauge may only be calibrated after the generator set is installed in the vessel.Note: The engine may be equipped with auxiliary engine oil filters. The extra filters require more engine oil than the standard amounts. Refer to the specifications of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).Use the following procedure in order to calibrate and mark the engine oil level gauge.
Ensure that the generator set is properly aligned and that the vessel is in the design trim. The generator set must be installed properly in the vessel. Note: If the engine is being filled with oil for the first time, perform Step 2. If the engine contained oil before this calibration procedure, skip Step 2 and proceed to Step 3.
Use the information in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fluid Recommendations" in order to select the correct oil for the engine. Add engine oil to the crankcase by using the procedure in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change ". Fill the crankcase with 138 L (146 qt) of the recommended oil.
Operate the engine until normal operating temperature is achieved. Stop the engine. Drain the engine oil by using the procedure in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change ".
If needed, replace the engine oil filters using the procedure in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change ".
Clean the engine oil level gauge and install the engine oil level gauge.
Use the information in Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fluid Recommendations" in order to select the correct oil for the engine.
Add engine oil to the crankcase using the procedure in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change ". Add 110 L (116 qt) of the recommended oil if the oil filters were changed. If the filters were not changed, subtract 2 L (2.1 qt) of oil from the total for each filter.
Start the engine. Ensure that the lubrication system and the new engine oil filters are filled. Inspect the lubrication system for leaks.
Stop the engine and allow the engine oil to drain into the engine crankcase for approximately 20 minutes.
Check the engine oil level. Use a marking tool in order to engrave the new "ADD" mark (Y) to the correct location on the gauge assembly.
Add 28 L (30 qt) of the recommended oil grade and weight of engine oil to the crankcase. Allow the oil to drain into the sump for approximately 20 minutes.
Check the engine oil level. Use a marking tool in order to engrave the new "FULL" mark (X) onto the correct location on the gauge assembly.
