Test Preparation
The procedure requires two people.Note: Use the information in the reference to prepare the machine for this test. Also, use the information in the reference to relieve any hydraulic pressure that may be in the hydraulic system.Reference: For the correct procedure to prepare the machine for this test, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting"
for the machine that is being serviced.Reference: For the correct procedure to relieve any hydraulic oil pressure that may be in the hydraulic system, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release"
for the machine that is being serviced.

Location of the travel speed switch
Be sure that the switch for the travel speed is set to the HIGH position before you perform the test. This process will ensure that port (X) is free of any trapped pressure and vented to the hydraulic tank. Port (X) on the control valve of the travel motor must be vented to the hydraulic tank during the test procedure.Test Procedure
Place the machine on level ground.
Shut off the engine.
Release all the pressure in the hydraulic system. For the correct procedure to release the pressure, refer to the reference at the beginning of the test.

Location of the travel motor
Remove the cover for the travel motor from the roller frame.

Ports on the control valve of the travel motor
(A) Forward
(B) Reverse
(G) Brake pressure
(S) Line relief pressure
(X) Pilot pressure for low travel speed
(M1) Pump pressure for the shift point of the motor
(Ma) Reverse
(Mb) Forward
(Bre) Brake
Remove the plugs from port (M1) and port (Mb) on the control valve of the travel motor.
Assemble 8C-6864 Adapter and 8C-5201 Face Seal. Assemble the 6V-3965 Fitting As and 3J-1907 O-Ring Seal. Install the fitting on the adapter. Install the adapter in port (Mb).
Assemble 8C-6862 Adapter and 8C-5199 Face Seal. Assemble the 6V-3965 Fitting As and 3J-1907 O-Ring Seal. Install the fitting on the adapter. Install the adapter in port (M1).
Attach the hoses and the pressure gauges to the nipples.
Illustration 5 g00787053
Typical Example
The photo shows the left side sprocket.
(1) Stopper
(2) Sprocket
Place stopper (1) in both sprockets in order to block forward right travel.
Start the engine.
Place the engine speed dial to high idle.
Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 50° C (122° F) to 65° C (149° F).
Illustration 6 g01162811
Hydraulic lockout control
Move the hydraulic lockout control to the UNLOCKED position.
Do not hold this function or any other function stalled for more than 10 seconds. Hydraulic oil is heated rapidly when the oil is channeled through relief valves. Component damage could result.
When you are stalling the tracks, adjust the main relief for the travel valve in order to obtain the working pump pressure shown in Table 1.
The pressure for (M1) port is shown in Table 1.
If the pressure reading is not within specifications, proceed to Step 17. If the pressure is correct proceed to Step 19.
Loosen the locknut on the adjustment screw. Turn the adjustment screw clockwise in order to lower the shift point. Turn the adjustment screw
