PROBLEM
The fuel sender may fail on certain D7R and D8R Track-Type Tractors. A failed sender can cause the fuel gauge to display an incorrect fuel level. An improved fuel level sender can be installed if the existing sender fails.
The new 157-8836 Fuel Level Sender As. has been released for parts service to replace the 120-9586 on D7R and 118-0690 on D8R on the machines contained in this letter.
Parts Needed
D7R: Item 1 & 2D8R: Item 1,2,3,4 Parts Needed
For O-ROPS machines:
1. Remove the six bolts securing the fuel level sender to the fuel tank.2. Disconnect the sender from the wiring harness and remove sender from machine.3. Install new fuel level sender in tank and install and tighten six bolts.4. A) For D7R, connect the sender to the machine wiring harness.4. B) For D8R, remove the connector from the machine wiring harness. Install the two 8T8730 Connector Sockets and one 155-2270 Connector Plug. Connect the sender to the machine wiring harness.5. Turn the battery disconnect switch to 'ON' position to activate the electrical system.6. Check the fuel tank sender for function. For E-ROPS machines:
1. Remove the four bolts securing the fuel tank to the fenders.2. Slide the right side of the fuel tank back in order to allow access to the fuel tank sender. Do not damage the fuel lines when you slide the fuel tank back.3. Follow instructions listed under "Cab Rework Procedure" below. Complete as needed.4. Follow Steps 1 through 6 listed above for O-ROPS machines.5. Slide the fuel tank forward into position and install and tighten mounting bolts.Cab Rework Procedure
When installing the new 157-8836 Fuel Level Sender Assembly on cab equipped machines, additional clearance may need to be cut in the notch in the sheet metal below the rear cab window to allow sufficient clearance for cab motion.
